Michelle Wie is on track to make inroads on the men's turf once
again as she got through the local qualifier for the 2006 men's US Open by
shooting square par at Turtle Bay Resort in Hawaii.
Next in her sights is the Sectional Qualifying next month in New
Jersey. Should she make it all the way through, Wie would be going against the
best male amateur and professional players in the world on what is arguably one
of the toughest challenges in the game…Winged Foot.

Before we get into the meat of the column, the Gannon Vietnam
Open Championship normally scheduled for the first week in June has been moved
to 25-27 August for unspecified reasons. Personally, I think this might be a
good move as the weather might not be so devastatingly hot for us fat old white
guys at that time of year.
And with any luck, the Yuccas will have wilted from the summer
heat by then.

According to the recently
released book, My Life In And Out Of The Rough, John Daly claims to have lost
over US$55 million during 12 years of heavy casino gambling. This elevates him
up to the big league with Michael Jordan and Pete Rose in the "athletes
stupid enough to gamble" category.

A caddie is supposed to
assist the player by providing relevant information such as yardage, distance to
hazards, club selection recommendations, putting lines and, of course, to clean
up after the player. However, there are a few basic facts that everyone needs to
remember and top of the list is that, although many try hard, they are not PGA
Tour caddies, ok?

Well, another Masters is
over and I am proud to say that my blazing streak of predicting winners
continues without interruption. Personally, I am awed by my amazing display of
utter perfection. A streak like this hasn't been seen since the likes of Jimmy
The Greek.

It's Masters week, and
remember that I am writing the column on a Thursday, so my pick for this year's
Masters champion is a toss-up between Jim Furyk and Retief Goosen. If pressured
to choose, I'll bet on Goosen.
Yes, I'm sure that a lot
of you want to go for the perennial favourites of Woods, Mickelson, Vijay or
Els, but I like to buck the odds a bit and for some reason, I think that my two
picks are ready for prime time and a green jacket.

It’s that time of year
again.
The azaleas are in bloom,
the weather is warming up and Augusta National is once again making headlines,
this time because of the changes made which extended the course to a whopping
7,445 yards and inspired a broadside attack from former champions.

Sittin' on
the dock of the bay, watching the time roll away, I'm just sittin' on the dock
of the bay…wasting time…
If you're an amateur
sociologist, i.e., a "people watcher," then international airports are
definitely the second-best place to relax for a few hours and watch the world go
by. The first place is obviously golf courses as people's true characters are
constantly on display.

In last week's Sunday Viet
Nam News, I noticed many good articles with similar themes and wondered why we
cannot do the same here in Viet Nam.
For example, Country music
singer Dolly Parton created "Imagination Library" which delivered one
free book per month to poor children who might not have the opportunity to read
books otherwise. Experts claim that reading to your children helps them to learn
faster and be more prepared when beginning school.
