It appears that a little whimpering in the column from time to
time can result in some benefits. After complaining about "not having the
urge to play golf much anymore" a few weeks ago, Grahame Harris invited me
out to play at Van Tri, then not to be outdone, Lars Holden invited me out to
Chi Linh Star so he could beat up on me as well.

APEC is in full swing and President George W Bush is coming to
Viet Nam. Since he isn't bringing his golf clubs, I'm not too excited.
While some of you probably expect me to "be my normal
self", I hate to disappoint you because I'm gonna be a nice guy.

As you are reading this, the 2006 APEC meeting is underway.
While this is great for the economy and prestige of Viet Nam, it is sheer misery
to those who live here and must deal with the traffic detours just to get to
work. However, there is a solution…
Hit the road, Jack.

Ever had one of those weeks where nothing seems to go right?
Well, I'm in the middle of a month of those weeks. I have almost zero interest
in playing golf, my back is killing me and a host of other irritations. If I
were a horse, they'd shoot me. A friend, who is a budding armchair psychologist,
called it a "mid-life crisis" which fits because I am 48. I call it
something else entirely associated with what makes the grass grow green.

People still ask me why I decided to leave Kings’ Island Golf and have a hard time accepting the most simple and honest of reasons: I wanted to spend more time with my family.

Every culture has customs and superstitions. In Asia, it is generally understood that the number four should be avoided at all costs. Many Asian hotels don't have a 4th floor, while in the West, it’s the number 13 which is shunned. In fact, Friday the 13th is so notorious that a whole series of horror movies have been dedicated to it.

Every night before bed, my two-year-old daughter will insist that she and I practice English. First, she will point to items in the room which she knows and say the name for it. After this is done, I will point to an item she doesn't know and say its name in English, which she repeats.
